Public Access Test – Upon completion of our Service Dog Training Program, you may decide to pursue certification with PAWS Training Centers. The final step of our certification is the Public Access Test. This test is a collaboration of items throughout the entire Service Dog Training Program.

Move the training to more public spaces. Because the “come” command could save your dog’s life, he must learn to respond to it even when he’s distracted. Move the training sessions from your home or yard to a public park. There are more sights, sounds, and smells demanding his attention there.

The Association of Professional Dog Trainers, APDT, is a professional organization of individual trainers who are committed to becoming better trainers through education. The APDT offers individual pet dog trainers a respected and concerted voice in the dog world. We continue to promote professional trainers in the veterinary profession and to increase public awareness of dog-friendly training techniques.

Be sure to reward your dog during periods when he is quiet and not performing any unacceptable behaviors. For example, if he is sitting quietly and not barking, this is a perfect opportunity to reward him with his favorite treat or a belly rub.

Keep your dog’s temperament in mind. All dogs have different temperaments. Just like kids, different breeds learn differently and at different rates. Some dogs are stubborn and will challenge you at every turn. Others will bend over backwards to please you. You may need to adjust your training techniques to meet the need of your dog’s temperament.

We offer a full line of assistance dog equipment which includes dog vests and working dog patches. Individuals may order these items from our dog vest and patch store. Training organizations – please contact Wolf Packs directly to place your bulk orders.

Remember that training is an ongoing process. You will…MORE never be completely finished. It is important to keep working on obedience training throughout the life of your dog. People who learn a language at a young age but stop speaking that language may forget much of it as they grow older. The same goes for your dog: use it or lose it. Running through even the most basic tricks and commands will help them stay fresh in your dog’s mind. Plus, it’s a great way to spend time with your dog.

When Bark Busters dog trainers conduct adult dog and puppy training in your home, they will assess your current household dynamics and how they influence your dog’s behaviors. After making any necessary adjustments to the environment, your dog trainer will then teach you methods of communication that will help you lead your dog with confidence and ease. No matter what breed, age, or issue, Bark Busters’ natural, dog-friendly methods are proven effective, and they are also kind.

There is an organization for those partnered with Service (Assistance) Dogs. They produce a quarterly newsletter, with informative articles, hints, and help regarding the laws that govern our rights to be partnered with an A-Dog. Please check out the International Association of Service (Assistance) Dog Partners (IAADP) web site.

For dogs that have been with us as Board and Train ‘students’ or involved in any of our training programs, we offer a program for when owners are on holiday. During their stay with us your dog will be walked daily, exercised both by themselves and with other play dogs and go through a ‘brush up’ program of Fine Tuning. This program is designed to remind him of, ‘brush up’ and practice known skills, or to Fine-Tune for competition and be the partner companion you love. Why allow your dog to learn unwanted habits while you are away? Better to let him enjoy a ‘camp’ vacation where he can enjoy learning while having fun. This program will make him happy, and will give you peace of mind knowing your best friend will come back refreshed, happy and behaving even better than before.

Take baby steps Dogs, just like people, learn best when new tasks are broken down into small steps. For example, you can’t go out and line dance unless you learn all of the individual steps first! When teaching your dog a new skill, begin with an easy first step and increase difficulty gradually. If you’re training your dog to stay, start by asking her to stay for just 3 seconds. After some practice, try increasing the duration of her stay to 8 seconds. When your dog has mastered an 8-second stay, make things a little harder by increasing the time to 15 seconds. Over the week or two, continue to gradually increase the duration of the stay from 15 seconds to 30 seconds to a minute to a few minutes, etc. By training systematically and increasing difficulty slowly, you’ll help your dog learn faster in the long run.

I’ve used Dog Training Now for my 3 dogs and each time was a different, amazing experience. All dogs have different strengths and struggles and they nailed them all. The trainers are all fantastic, you feel like they’re family once you’re done and can always go back to them with questions and advise. My dogs love to go back to visit and feel like they’re at home. I recommend them all the time.

“I used to dread taking my dog for long walks (or anywhere that we were likely to encounter people/other dogs), because she was so aggressive and excitable. I had bruises and scratches from holding her back! After the two week program here, though, we can go to forest preserves, parks– whatever! My rambunctious boxer will now stay, come, sit, lay down, and walk next to me on a leash. She even makes out with the collie next door now. The difference is huge! Another plus is that because the trainers give you lots of advice and tips, I’m better able to train my dog too! I had tried teaching her stuff before (like sit, shake, wait until I say “okay” to eat) without much success, but this week I used some techniques that Marcus and Nick told me about, and she picked up a couple extra tricks in no time. I’m very happy to have found this place, and my dog seemed to love it too! Every morning I started to ask, “Ready for school?” and there would be serious wiggle-butting.”

According to the American Pet Products Association, annual pet expenditures have grown 113% since 2001 and are expected to exceed $60 billion in 2015. While no school can guarantee employment after graduation, the growth of the animal industry, means that opportunities exist in this industry. 2

The first step is to socialize your dog with your family. This is best done slowly and patience is a virtue here. Dogs and humans speak a different language so you’ll both be learning how to communicate.

Do you feel out of control and stressed in your own house? You’ll be just amazed at the difference a little Pack Leadership within your own home will make in your relationship, not only with your dog but with your family. We can help you make quick improvements with leash pulling, guarding resources, housebreaking, jumping or even aggression. We come to your home where your dog exhibits these unwanted behaviors and teach the whole family how to bring on the ideal companion.

Each training session should include any new commands you are trying as well as old commands the dog has already learned—so the dog does not forget them. Always be consistent. Important: If you become frustrated, stop and try again later.

The trainers, Matt, Chris, and Marcus, are so passionate about what they do! Not only did they get my stubborn terrier to listen and obey, they did so with love and patience. They took the time to answer every single question and spent time with me each day to make sure I felt confident going home and… read more

I’ve never been more pleased with the one on one hands on training that Brent teaches for Ace Dog Training. What people don’t understand is you have to train yourself in order to continuously teach your dog basic commands and other serious training and that’s what he teaches in all courses. I have not been disappointed with the outcome. He works with all sorts of different dogs. So I highly recommend contacting him and reasonable prices too!!!
Introduce a cue word. To encourage toileting on command it doesn’t take much extra work to introduce a word while your dog is urinating or defecating. So when your dog starts toileting say ‘wee wee’ or whistle (or introduce a hand signal) so that the behavior is paired with a command. This means on those cold wintery nights, or during toilet breaks on long road trips you have a way to quickly get your dog to urinate/defecate on command.
