Brent is an amazing trainer with extensive knowledge and understanding of dog behavior. My dog Roscoe was and is fearful, a trait that can be easily mistaken for aggression. Brent helped us understand Roscoe behavior and trained US how to manage his fear in a positive manner . Brent truly takes the time and makes the effort needed to fit your individual situation, something that was a struggle for us with multiple trainers previous to Brent. We highly recommend Brent.

For dogs, English is a second language Dogs aren’t born understanding English. They can learn the significance of specific words, like “sit” and “walk” and “treat,” but when humans bury those familiar words in complex sentences, dogs sometimes have difficulty understanding. They can also get confused when people use different words for the same thing. For example, some people will confuse their dogs by saying, “Fluffy, down!” one day and “Sit down, Fluffy!” another day. Then they wonder why Fluffy doesn’t respond the same way every time. When teaching your dog a cue or command, decide on just one word or phrase, and make sure you and your family use it clearly and consistently.

“All I can say is wow. I have a 5 year old German Shepherd who was pushy and never listened, and was horrible when anyone came over, and a 4 year old Goldendoodle who was completely untrained. They returned from Premier 5 days ago and are now reliably obedient and just so GOOD. Premier came out to my house today to help transition some of the training that we were still having trouble with (door manners and leash walking), and they showed us exactly what to do….and now we’ve all got it down. They will keep coming to tweak things as needed until my dogs are perfect….but even now, they are soooo much better than they used to be!!! Thank you Premier!!!! ******UPDATE on 6/8********Premier came out to my house again today to help me tweak some issues with my very head strong German Shepherd. They were here for two hours and taught us easy ways to address the issues. I now know what to do and am confident they will keep getting better and better. They are a million times better than they started, and Premier will keep working with us until they are where we want them to be. Best thing I ever did!”

An electronic remote training collar is a device that applies electric current to a dog’s neck to give them a signal. It is wireless, powered by batteries, and usually comes with a transmitter that sends a signal to the collar. This shock the collar applies is intended to give the dog a mild stimulus, similar to what you experience when you receive an static shock. When given while the dog is doing undesirable behaviors, the shock is meant to deter the activity in the future. Electronic remote training collars allow you to train your dog with positive punishment from a distance and give you the ability to train your dog even when they can’t actually see or hear your commands.

Understand the purpose of the “listen” command. Also known as the “watch me” command, the “listen” is one of the first commands you should teach your dog. You’ll use it to get your dog’s attention so you can give him the next command or direction. Some people just use their dog’s name instead of the “listen.” This is especially useful if you have more than one dog. That way, each individual dog will know when you want it to focus on you.

Use appropriate and motivating rewards. This is usually a treat, as most dogs aren’t motivated enough just by praise or a game. Keep your treats on you at all times so you can reward within a few seconds. We have some training tips for those who are new to it.

When your dog runs to hide from you, don’t go after him and pull him from under the bed. Ignore him and do something that will persuade him to come out like playing with his toys or frying up some bacon. Dogs are curious and social creatures and they’ll eventually become bored and lonely by themselves. Reward him with a bit of that bacon when he comes out.
